2
Animal Adaptations
to change your behavior so that it is easier to live in a particular place or situation
3
Poll
Examples of Adapting
Moving to a new home means adapting new a new school, neighborhood and location. Have you ever done this before?
Yes
No
4
Moving to a new country = Adapting
You would need to adapt to a new language and culture.
5
Example of a small adaptation
going to a place that is on a different time zone then us. It might be 2 pm in New York, but 8 pm somewhere else. You would have to adapt to the time change. If you stayed there long enough, your body would get used to the new time zone. This means you would be adapting.
6
Behavioral Adaptation
Animals behave a certain way to adapt to their new environment. Animals will migrate (move from one location to another) during the winter when its too cold.
Butterflies will migrate because they can die if it gets too cold.
7
Poll
Have you ever migrated?
During the winter, have you escaped NY to go on vacation to a warmer place?
Yes
No
8
Hibernation is also a form of Adapting
Animals will sleep during the winter and then wake up when it gets warmer out. Animals can go months without drinking, eating and even going to the bathroom.
9
Adapting through interactions
Another way animals adapt is through their interactions with each other. Fun fact: Monkeys help each other out by eating bugs off each others backs.
