Luke 7:36-50

One of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him, and he went into the Pharisee’s house and reclined at table.

And behold, a woman of the city,.........

WHAT DOES THIS BIBLE VERSE SAY ?

7

This says about story of a sinful woman who was forgiven by Jesus because she cried at His feet to forgive her.

8

Whose example did Jesus give to explain forgiveness?

9

The story of two debtors.

10

Jesus gave an example of two debtors who owed money to a money lender. One owed more money and other less.

When the debtors asked to forgive their debt the money lender forgave them.

The one with more debt was happier than the other. Do you know why?

11

The one with more debt was happier because more amount of his debt was forgiven.

12

This parable says that those who have bigger sin are more grateful as they have been forgiven from a huge burden.

Similarly, God has forgiven all our sins no matter big or small.

13

To apply this parable to our lives, we also must see the incredible forgiveness of God.

For some of us, we see that God’s mercy is easy because our past is like that of the sinful woman or the debtor with the large debt.

14

We know our past has made us unworthy to be in relationship with God; and yet out of His great love, we have been welcomed into His presence.

16

Some of us have “grown up in the church.” We paid attention in class. We weren’t the bullies and bad person in school. We are much more like Simon the Pharisee, who was compared to the debtor with the smaller debt.

17

Like Simon, we too have difficulty seeing that we need forgiveness. Also, like Simon, we perhaps fail to honour Jesus. He is simply not the number 1 “guest of honour” in our lives.

18

We sometimes struggle to realize that our “little debt” is still beyond our ability to pay, which puts us on equal ground with those that have “big debts.” We stand in need of a Saviour, who is willing to forgive, if only we will accept His grace.

Then, we can respond to Jesus in love, out of gratitude for what He has done in our lives
