  • It's just the fancy name for "Verb-ing"

  • cook -> cooking

  • eat -> eating

  • laugh -> laughing

Verbs VS. Adjectives

  • Verbs tell us about the actions nouns do.

  • Adjectives tell us more about nouns--basically extra detail.

  • He is flying a kite. -> There is a flying kite right above us.

  • They are burning piles of garbage. -> The burning piles of garbage are making a lot of smoke.

  • The river was flowing before the drought. -> The flowing river dried out when the drought happened.
