Direct Speech
•Direct or quoted speech means repeating the exact or actual words of a speaker.
The spoken words are identified by the presence of speech marks or inverted commas. We could be reporting an incident that is being said now or telling someone afterwards about a previous conversation.
Example:
“ We will be landing at our destination in 30 minutes,” the pilot informed the passengers.
3
Indirect Speech
Indirect speech is the act of reporting something that was previously said but not in the same words as used by the original speaker. It merely conveys what was said rather than repeating the exact words spoken.
Example:
The pilot informed the passengers that they would be landing in 30 minutes
