​Mixed number is a combination of a whole number and a fraction

​Action:

​Show examples of mixed fraction from anything in your house.

​First step in adding or subtracting mixed numbers, we have to convert mixed numbers into improper fraction.

How do we convert mixed numbers into improper fractions?

​How do we convert mixed numbers into improper fractions?

1. We multiply the denominator and the whole number

​2. We add the result to the numerator

​3. We copy the denominator

​After converting mixed numbers into improper fractions, check if they are similar or dissimilar.

​If dissimilar, we have to transform them into similar fraction by getting the LCM.

​If they are similar, proceed with addition or subtraction.

​Then, express the result in simplest/ lowest term.

​To add or subtract mixed numbers

​To multiply simple fractions and mixed fractions, do the following:

 Change the mixed fraction to improper fraction.

 Get the GCF of any of the numerator and denominator. Simplify by

cancellation.

 Multiply the numerator by the numerator, the denominator by the

denominator.

 Express the product in simplest form.
