Announcements
All your work is due tomorrow:
Lab sheet from sound project
yesterday's virtual lab (email me the slides or submit through google classroom, and let me know who you worked with)
Today's quizziz lesson/ practice
You may take notes on an index card for the quiz tomorrow
What is on the quiz?
Notes and concepts covered Tue-Today (what is light and how does it behave)
3
Yesterday's Refraction Lab
You were able to measure how light is refracted yesterday.
At the end of the lab you gathered measurements for different WAVELENGTHS of visible light.
Look at the results below, what pattern's do you see?
4
Multiple Choice
Each color of visible light has a different...
speed
wavelength and frequency
amplitude
5
Fill in the Blank
Type answer...
6
WHITE LIGHT
White light is actually a combination of ALL THE VISIBLE COLORS!
7
Open Ended
Based on what you observed in you lab, and what you've seen today, why do you think a beam of white light splits into a rainbow in a prism?
8
Prism Demo
OPTIONAL
You may explore the prism simulation to get a better understanding.

What you need to know about REFRACTION
Light bends / refracts when it passes from one medium to another
If it enters something MORE DENSE (like air to water) the light is slowed down and bends down
If it enters something LESS DENSE, it speeds up and bends up.
Different wavelengths & frequencies of light are refracted differently.
low wavelength/ high frequency bends MORE.
Colors of light all have different wavelengths
10
Now, REFLECTION
Light is reflected at the same angle it hits a surface.
Know these terms:
incident beam = ray of light hitting a surface
reflected beam = the ray reflected off the surface
normal line = the imaginary line between the two beams
incident angle = angle between incident beam and normal line
reflection angle = angle between reflected beam and normal line

Last new concept, ABSORPTION
Just like with sound, light waves can be absorbed
That is when the wave energy is TRANSFERRED to a medium
Think about it:
black absorbs a lot of light, that is why it gets so hot in the sun
the light energy is transferred to the material as heat
