What is Subtraction?​

the process or skill of taking one number or amount away from another.

​What is the sign used for SUBTRACTION?

​The sign used for subtraction is the minus sign.

​Shown in the picture below is the sign of subtraction.

​What are the terms of SUBTRACTION?

• Minuend: The number from which we subtract the other number is known as the minuend.

• ​

• Subtrahend: The number which is subtracted from the minuend is known as the subtrahend.

• ​

• Difference: The final result obtained after performing subtraction is known as the difference.

​What are the Properties of SUBTRACTION?

​

• Subtracting a number from itself.

• Subtracting 0 from a number.

  Subtraction of 1.

​The subtraction of a number from itself gives 0, while the subtraction of a real number from a smaller real number gives a negative real number. Subtraction of real numbers can be naturally extended to complex numbers.

​if you subtract 0 from any number, you get the same sum. For example, 12-0 = 12.

​When 1 is subtracted from any number, the difference equals the predecessor of the number.
