Adejctivise them Nouns שמות עצם ושמות תואר

There are 3 things you must remember when adding an Adjective (describing word) to a Noun in Hebrew.

1) The Adjectives come

AFTER the noun

​It is like saying "dog good" or "teacher brilliant"

2) Decide if the noun is Masculine or Feminine by looking at its Singular form.

Some nouns, especially in their plural form, like to lurk in the darkness of the language and hide in all sorts of tricky ways. 

​

For example, the noun עין (eye) is Feminine (body part we have 2 of). In the plural it is עיניים. Surely a Masculine?!? No, it is not. 

​

For example, קירות (wall) ends with ות. Surely a Feminine!?!

No, it is not. The singular is קיר. Which is a Masculine noun.​

3) Decide if the Noun is

Singular or Plural

and stick the Adjective to it​

​

if it is Singular + Masculine --> גדול

if it is Singular + Feminine --> גדולה

if it is Plural + Masculine --> גדולים

if it is Plural + Feminie --> גדולות

​Let's explain:

​

​1. The plural is ארונות. It ends with ות, so surely it is a Feminine ! but NO!

​

​2. Remember rule 2 - Check the Singular form of the noun. ארונות singular is ארון. It is a Masculine Noun.

​

​3. Therefore the adjective remains Masculine and the correct answer is --> ארונות גדולים

​It is another exception.

​נר is Masculine.
