Present and Future Real Conditionals

2

PRESENT REAL CONDITIONAL

The present real conditional is the most basic kind of conditional. Basically, when A happens, B happens.

Here's an example:

"If it rains, I bring an umbrella."

Conditionals have two parts:

the if clause: "if it rains," and the result clause: "I bring an umbrella."

You could also say "I bring an umbrella if it rains."

3

FUTURE REAL CONDITIONAL

Now let's talk about the future real conditional. If A happens, B will happen.

To make a future real conditional, use will in the result clause.

For example:

"If your plane is late, I will wait in the car."

Use the future real conditional to talk about possible situations in the future.

Again, you could also say "I will wait in the car if your plane is late".

Pay attention!

If you are writting sentences in the Present Real Conditional, use the rules of the Simple Present:

  • with He, She, It - use s, es or ies in the verbs.

If he cooks well, he can be a chef.

She needs to get a license if she drives so well.

If you are writting sentences in the Future Real Conditional, always use will + base form of the verb, however, only in the result clause.

If he cooks well, he will be a chef.

She will get a license if she drives so well.
