2
How many does each atom want to fulfill the octet rule? 8
How many valence electrons in each bond? Single has 2, double has 4.
Once complete shell of electrons for O, C, S, N is how many electrons? 8 Hydrogen? 2 electrons
Each atom has a certain about of valence electrons (In their own color) Ex: H=1, O=6....
Need to know that....
Valence electrons...

Glucose
Allyl methyl sulfide
How come Glucose and Allyl methyl sulfide taste so different even if they are made up of similar atoms?
4
Glucose
Allyl methyl sulfide
How come Glucose and Allyl methyl sulfide taste so different even if they are made up of similar atoms?
What do they both have in common and what is different? Think about the number of atoms, types of atoms, bonds, do they look the same...Think about biochemistry site.... etc. Be specific. Use information they give you and vocab words.
5
Important formulas to know.
Mass number=Protons +neutrons
Net Charge= Protons-electrons
Protons=Mass number -Neutrons
Etc...Know how to rearrange the equations to find what you need.
Some text here about the topic of discussion
6
Periodic table...
What does our "group" tell us?
7
Periodic table...
What does our "group" tell us? Number of electrons in that column the atoms have.
8
When bonds break...
When bonds break you need to understand how to see which/how many electrons are left.
9
Receptors...
Receptors are special proteins found on the surface of tongue and nerve cells.
Each of them has a very specific, unique shape
The molecules in your food also have very specific, unique shapes.
If the shape of the pizza molecule fits together with the shape of the receptor (like puzzle pieces or a lock and key), the electrical signal gets started and sent to your brain.
And if the shapes don't fit together, then a signal is not sent to your brain.
10
Molecules
Molecules are made up of atoms.
When atoms bond they form Molecules.
Can molecules be made of the same atoms but be put together differently? Yes! It all depends on the bonds.
It's shape depends if it will interact with the receptor or not.
11
Multiple Choice
What are protons?
Positive subatomic particle
Negative subatomic Particle
Neutral subatomic particle
12
Multiple Choice
Where are protons found?
On the outer rings of an atom
In the nucleus of an atom
All over the place in an atom, some on the shells and some inside the nucleus
