​

The driving force of earthquakes in California is movement along the San Andreas Fault and the many associated faults within the San Andreas Fault System that form the tectonic boundary between the Pacific and North American tectonic plates.

​ Wildfires are caused by unusual drought and heat exacerbated by climate change, overgrown forests caused by decades of fire suppression, and rapid population growth along the edges of forests.

The South East Region of the US has a total area of over 580,000 square miles with a population of over 97 million. The population density is just over 150 people per square mile. The most populous state in the region is Florida, which has an estimated population of nearly 22 million people. The least populous state in the Southeast is West Virginia, which has a population of 1.8 million.​

​ The Appalachian Mountains are a system of mountain ranges that stretches some 1,500 miles (2,400 km) from the central part of the US state of Alabama to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada.

Mohave Desert ​

​The Mohave Desert touches portions of California, Arizonia, Nevada and Utah. Covering both the West and South West Regions.

​The Rocky Mountains, also known as the Rockies, are a major mountain range and the largest mountain system in North America.

​The Great Salt Lake is loacted in northwest Utah and is the largest saltwater lake in the Western Hemisphere.

​The Great Lakes are, from west to east: Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario. The largest being Lake Superior and the smallest being Lake Ontario. Lake Superior is the largest freshwater lake in the world.

​The Appalachian Trail is a 2,180+ mile long public footpath that traverses the Appalachian Mountains. It runs from Maine in the north of the United States to Georgia in the south.

​The Grand Canyon in in Arizona. The canyon averages 10 miles across and a mile deep along its 277-mile length.

​Death Valley is a desert valley in Eastern California, in the northern Mojave Desert. It is North America's driest and hottest spot (with fewer than two inches of rainfall annually and a record high of 134°F), and has the lowest elevation on the continent—282 feet below sea level.
