The Industrial Revolution
This was an era of rapid scientific discovery and industrial growth. New technologies such as the Steam Engine invented by Thomas Watt meant products could be made faster the by hand. This also lead to more jobs for unskilled workers in factories which were located in cities. The mass movement of these people into the cities is called Urbanization. Urbanization was an important part of the Industrial Revolution.

Imperialism
To fuel the growth of the Industrial Revolution European countries sought to take resource rich land away from African and Asian nations. Places like India fed the urbanizing cities and supply factories with raw goods. Many criticized this European Imperialism saying that nations like Britain resembled an octopus with its tentacles reaching out and stealing many lands.
4
Social Revolutions
Criticism was not only leveled at Imperialism but also at society. Workers, including children, labored in unsafe factories for long hours. Workers fought and demonstrated for better conditions and gained concessions. A similar revolution happened for women. Women fought for the Right to vote which is called Suffrage.
