The price of an item uses the units dollars and cents.
There are 100 cents in one dollar.
Dollars come before the decimal.
Cents come after the decimal.
Since it is unusual to count out coins when you pay, you need to add a dollar to the price to cover the cents part.
We call this "Dollar Up"

In the United States, we pay money to the government whenever we buy things.
This money is called "Sales Tax."
The government uses this money to pay for roads, schools, fire departments, snow plows, and other things all people need.
In Massachusetts, the sales tax is 6%. For every dollar in an item's price, we pay 6 cents to the government.
The sales tax is not written on the price tag, so we need to predict it.
To predict the sales tax, we do:
Dollar amount X 6 = Tax
We add the tax, in cents, to the price tag to find out what to pay.
