media

6

Definite Articles

  • Definite articles specify which object, person, or place the speaker is talking about.

  • “The” is the only definite article in English. In Spanish, however, there are 4 definitive articles: el, la, los, las.

  • Articles in Spanish must agree with the gender and number of the noun.

7

EL/LOS

El/Los are used with masculine nouns. The noun usually ends in "o" or " or"

El libro

Los cuadernos

El borrador

Los marcadores

Nouns in Spanish can be made plural the same way that they are in English, by added and -s or -es on the end.

8

La/Las

La/Las is used with feminine nouns.

La regla

La computadora

Las sillas

Las banderas

Nouns in Spanish can be made plural the same way that they are in English, by added and -s or -es on the end.

9

Indefinite Articles

  • Indefinite articles are a nonspecific way to refer to a noun. “A,” “an,” and "some" are the only English indefinite articles that exist.

  • However, in Spanish, there are four: un, una, unos, unas

  • Articles in Spanish must agree with the gender and number of the noun.

10

Un/Unos

Un/Unos are used with masculine nouns. The noun usually ends in "o" or " or"

Un libro

Unos cuadernos

Unborrador

Unos marcadores

Nouns in Spanish can be made plural the same way that they are in English, by added and -s or -es on the end.

11

La/Las

Las sillas

Las banderas

12

Nouns in Spanish:

  • Most nouns that end in the letter -o are masculine and get the masculine article

  • Most nouns that end in the letter -a are feminine and get the feminine article

  • There are exceptions to the rules, however...don't worry about them right away! :-)

13
