The Use of the Past Form of the Verb

1. The government issued a lockdown for the community two months ago.

2. We heard of the news just yesterday.

3. The Department of Health sent experts to the city two weeks ago.

4. Just last month, face masks became scarce in the pharmacies.

5. The pandemic started late last year.

The simple past tense is used to talk about a completed action in the past. Time expressions that indicate the recent past or distant past are used.

If the Present Form of a Regular Verb Ends in -E, we add -D to form the Past Tense

If the Present Form of a Regular Verb Ends in a Letter other than -E, we usually add -ED to form the Past Tense

If the Present Form of a Regular Verb Ends in -Y preceded by a consonant, change the Y to I and add -ED

Irregular Verbs don't use the -D or -ED pattern, they changed their forms in the past
