  • The colonies traded raw materials for goods that would be made in Great Britain. (A material that has not yet been changed in any way is called a raw material)

  • Great Britian wanted to buy the raw materials as cheap as possible and then use them to make goods.

  • Great Britian would then sell these goods that they made to the colonists and other European empires and sell them for as much as possible!

​Main purpose of England claiming colonies was to profit from trade.

The British Parliament passed laws known as the Navigation Acts in 1651 to direct the flow of goods between England and its 13 colonies.
