Two works by Okamoto Taro were especially outstanding. Tower of the Sun and Tomorrow's Mythology.

Born in 1911, Taro was the eldest son of Okamoto Ippei and Kanoko.

He entered Tokyo Fine Arts school but soon left for Europe where he continued his studies in Paris.

In 1932, he became deeply moved by Picasso and felt the urge to confront and overcome him.

He began his quest for a new style of abstract painting and became the youngest member of Abstraction-Creation.

However his message was not simply antiwar or antinuclear.

His works send a powerful message of life in this age of nuclear proliferation.

In his later years, he was more or less ignored by the art world. But since his death, he has been re-appreciated.
