As I am reading the slides I will write notes and copy the definition for each term
5
Motion- is the process of changing position
Important words to understand.
6
Velocity -is the speed and direction of a moving object
Example: The car is going at the speed of 5m/s to the East.
7
Acceleration- The measure of how quickly the velocity of an object changes
Example: Speeding up, Slowing down, Changing directions
8
Increase- for the speed of the object to become faster
9
Constant speed- when something travels the same distance for the same amount of time for a period.
pg . 177 The turtle in figure 2 Traveled at a constant speed for 6 days.
10
Slope- Steeper -
A slope is a line used to represent the motion in the graph.
The Steeper the slope is the greater distance traveled = greater speed.
11
Decrease- slowing down the slope will be less steep the yellow line on the graph shows slowing down
12
Graphing Motion 5.2 page 174
How might
graphing the
motion of the
turtles help
save their
lives?
13
Distance Time Graph
A graph that shows the distance and time of a moving object.
14
X-axis shows the time ( days, hours, seconds e.t.c )
Y -axis shows the distance of an object (miles, kilometers)

Multiple Choice
Observe the turtle's travels how many kilometers did the turtle travel each day?
The turtles speed was constant and traveled a total of 16 km/day
The turtles speed was increasing it traveled a different amount each day
The turtles speed was decreasing went slower on the second day

Multiple Choice
Distance time graphs can be used to compare data. Here we have the Green Sea turtle and the Ridleys Sea turtle. What is the travel of the Green turtle after 6 days?
60 km/day
96 km/day
56 km/day
10 km /day

Multiple Choice
This type of graph shows the change in speed of a Hawksbill Sea turtle. This graph is different as you can see the line is not straight. What day did the turtle rest. Look for the horizontal line .
