We are learning about classroom interventions and SEL strategies that can help us connect with each student in our class.

I know I’ve learned it when I feel comfortable trying new strategies in my classroom to improve student behavior and learning.

Establish Positive Relationships and Rapport with Students

• Teach and encourage an empathy driven culture

Prevent Negative Behaviors from Occurring and Set Students Up for Success

• Use restorative language throughout the building

• Create clear and consistent expectations

• Consider which lessons students are struggling with, when students are commonly going off-task, etc.

• Pair or group students strategically

• Provide students with choice in their learning when possible

Establish Meaningful and Restorative Responses to Negative Behavior

• Hold restorative mediations on a regular basis

• Allow students to participate in decision making and repair the harm

• Establish buddy teacher system

• Loss of classroom privileges

• Relationship repair

Ongoing Communication Between Home and School for Both Positive and Negative Behavior

• Document parent/guardian contact and notification

• Commit to a schedule of communicating with at least a parent/guardian a day for both positive and negative behaviors

• Discuss the positive and negative patterns of behavior you've observed throughout the data you've collected and analyzed

• Parent/guardian/teacher conference using a solution focused approach
