Our Discussion Board
How to keep our Discussion Board fun, interactive, and interesting so it is a comfortable place for everyone!
2
We will have something to discuss following up after every class. This will replace homework in most cases.
3
I will post a question. This will follow up our class discussion and give us a chance to delve more deeply into what we dealt with in class.
You will need to answer the question with a thoughtful, well written post. Use supporting evidence from the materials in our lesson. Check back so you can make at least two responses to classmates' posts. Yes, this will be graded.
It will be considered late the next morning.
4
Your response to a classmate's post should deal with the content of their post. You can agree or disagree with what they stated, but support your statements with evidence from the material in our lesson. It is not your job to critique their writing or how good a job they did. That's my job.
5
This is academic writing, so we use a formal tone.
We write in complete sentences which develop
cohesive paragraphs.
We use proper punctuation and capitalization.
We do not use slang or text language.
Each prompt will indicate a target length.
6
Can I do some research before I write my response?
Certainly! The beauty of Asynchronous Discussion is that you can take your time and "look it up" if you would like to. Remember when you Google something..... read all the information... then close it down. Think about what you read.... what you learned. Now, write your response in your own words. Copy and Paste is NOT ACCEPTABLE!!
7
Responses to your classmates
Remember to always BE:
Kind
Respectful
Empathetic
You can disagree and still be nice!

8
If a question comes to mind as you work on your posts each evening, simply post it to the board. Chances are, someone else has the same question. Let's see if a classmate can answer faster than I can!!!!
9
What is your teacher doing?
I will join in the fun too. Sometimes I'll post something to help the discussion move along.
Every discussion will earn a homework grade (one thoughtful and well reasoned post.... and two responses to classmates.)
I will read and grade posts every work day so your feedback should be very prompt.
If you miss a class.... you will need to catch up your Discussions when you catch up our other assignments.
