  1. After the 1968 election, President Nixon's first term in office was fairly successful. He managed to open diplomatic relations with China and signed nuclear treaties with the Soviet Union.

  1. President Nixon's popularity did receive some damage from the Pentagon papers. The papers were leaked government documents that government did not want to stop the Vietnam War.
