THE FUTURE

STARTS TODAY

As high school students,

it's important to have a

clear vision of your future

and how you want to grow

and develop. Spend some

time each day creating a

vivid mental picture of

who you aspire to be and

how you want to behave

five years from now.

Identify your desired traits: Imagine the type of person you want to become. If

confidence is important to you, visualize yourself walking confidently, engaging

in conversations with ease, and acting assertively in various situations.

Create positive affirmations: Formulate statements that reinforce your positive

self-image. For example, say to yourself, "I am becoming more confident and

capable every day." Repeat these affirmations regularly to reinforce positive

thinking and belief in yourself.

Harness the power of your mind: Understand that your mind is a powerful tool.

By dedicating daily time to relax and visualize yourself achieving your goals,

you're preparing yourself to take action toward them. Visualization helps align

your thoughts and actions, making it easier to work towards your aspirations.

LET'S MAKE THIS ADVICE MORE RELEVANT FOR YOU:

Get excited about your goals: Cultivate enthusiasm and excitement for reaching

your goals. Visualize your achievements in such detail that they feel real to you.

This emotional investment will motivate you to take the necessary steps to turn

your dreams into reality.

Behave as if you've already succeeded: Act as though you have already reached

your goals. Emulate the behavior and habits of the person you envision yourself

becoming. By embodying these qualities now, you'll develop the necessary skills

and mindset to achieve your goals.

do know your destination, you
can quickly determine which route
is best for you.

TIME MANAGEMENT STEPS

Take Responsibility

Many of us blame others for wasting our time. “It’s not my fault

I’m late—my friend absolutely refused to hurry up!” “Everybody is

always asking me to do more things when I already have too

much to do!”

10

media

Take Responsibility

If you consistently point fingers at others for your

poor time management decisions, you'll find it

difficult to enhance your life. Taking ownership of

how you allocate your time grants you the ability to

control your own life. When you can reflect on your

past choices and understand how they influenced

the results, you can look forward and apply what

you've learned to make improved choices and

shape your life in positive ways.

Mastering the skill of saying no is crucial for effective time management. It may seem

simple, but it's often challenging. However, it's essential because without this ability,

other time-management strategies hold little value. Saying no empowers you to have

greater control over your life. Here are some key steps to follow:

Clearly identify your own desires and boundaries in your mind and when

communicating with others.

Assess requests: Do you have the time to participate? What will you have to sacrifice

to take on this new responsibility? Will it contribute to achieving your goals? Do you

genuinely want to accept this request?

Promptly and tactfully accept or decline requests. Avoid vague responses like "We'll

see" or "I'll get back to you," as they will only lead to revisiting the matter in the future.

Exchange fleeting satisfaction for a guilt-free feeling. By avoiding over commitment.

Change Your Habits for a
Productive High School Life

We all develop habits to save time, but sometimes they can backfire. As

young high school students, it's important to be aware of our habits and

make sure they're actually helping us. Some habits may stick around even

when they're no longer useful, while others can waste our time. For

instance, taking a few minutes each day to organize your backpack is great

and can save you time when you're in a hurry. However, spending the entire

morning sorting through your backpack can turn a good habit into an

obsession or a way to avoid getting started on your work.

Achieving Your Goals:
Finding Motivation in

New Habits

When trying to develop new habits, it's important to find a prize or

benefit that truly excites you. Let's say you want to improve your

fitness level, and walking two miles a day can help you achieve that.

Ask yourself if you truly desire that fitness boost enough to commit

to the walking. If the answer is yes, then you're on the right path

towards your goal. However, if you find yourself lacking motivation,

it's crucial to search for a reward or benefit that will make you

genuinely want to change.

Your Goals: Finding
Motivation in New
Habits

Remember that in order to learn new habits, you must let go of old ones.

The positive new habit can replace the less effective old behavior. It's

natural to feel attached to your old habits, even when you understand

the benefits of changing. Additionally, you might encounter

disorientation or resistance from family and friends as you embark on

this change. Acknowledge the difficulties but keep your eyes on the

prize that awaits you, and work towards achieving it.

To effectively manage your time in high school, it's

essential to learn how to organize and de-clutter

your living and working spaces. Research has shown

that we waste valuable time daily searching for

misplaced items amidst the chaos of our lives.

SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE: DE-CLUTTER

FOR A MORE ORGANIZED HIGH

SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

16

media

Start by de-cluttering your life, getting rid of things you
no longer need or use.

Make a plan: Create a list of all the areas in your home or office that require

attention.

Pick a target: Begin with the area that will have the most significant impact in

terms of time saved.

Set a date: Dedicate a specific day and time to tackle a particular area. Mark it in

your calendar and follow through. Remember, organizing a drawer or closet only

takes a few minutes, so don't feel overwhelmed by thinking you need large blocks

of time.

Seek support: If you struggle to stay focused on a big project or habit change,

share your goals or plans with a friend or family member. Having someone check

in on your progress and celebrate your success will motivate you.
