Cold War lesson
Read the Definitions below and answer the questions that follow:
The Cold War - Period between 1947-1991 where the United States and Soviet Union engaged in indirect conflict via proxy wars between other nations while avoiding direct combat via arms races, alliances--NATO for the U.S., Warsaw Pact for the Soviets--and nuclear deterrence.
Proxy War - War between two groups or nations that are supported--usually w/ arms, money, and supplies--by more powerful countries.

Categorize
Egypt and Syria attack Israel. The US supports Israel, the Soviets supports Egypt and Syria.
Rebels fight the Cuban government. Soviets support Cuba and the US supports the rebels.
The U.S. supports a rebellion against the Soviet-supported Polish government.
The U.S. and Soviet Union fight each other directly in Europe.
The Soviets invade Afghanistan, US supports Afghan rebels.
To the left are a series of scenarios. Some are fictional and some are real.
Use the attached definition of proxy war to determine which scenario goes under proxy war and which goes under "regular" war.
