Foundational Body Systems
There are eleven body systems that make up our body. These systems help
our body maintain homeostasis meaning our bodies internal environment
stays stable despite outside factors.
2
Multiple Choice
True or False. Homeostasis means our bodies internal environment stays stable despite outside factors.
True
False
3
Skeletal System
The Skeletal System is the foundation of our bodies. This foundation is made of bones. These bones are found inside our bodies so we can call our
skeleton an endoskeleton.
4
Skeletal System
As a baby we have 300 bones, but as we age some of these bones fuse together to make a total of 206 bones.
The purpose of this skeleton is much like the frame of a house. It protects our
organs, gives us shape, and provides support. Our skeleton does two more
things for us. They produce blood cells, and they store materials until our body needs them.
5
Multiple Choice
Which of the following does our skeletal system NOT do for our?
Protect our organs
Support our posture
Makes blood cells
Allows us to move
6
Muscular System
The muscular system is responsible for all the movement of our
bodies. The beating of your heart, digesting food, and blinking our
eyes requires muscles. The three functions performed by muscles
are:
1)
Movement
2)
Maintaining Body Temp.
3)
Posture
7
Muscular CANNOT push
Muscles move you by pulling. They cannot push. Muscles that
move the body usually work in pairs. One will contract,
pulling against the bones. The other will relax.
8
Multiple Choice
What can our muscles NOT do?
Push on bones
Pull on bones
Allow us to move our skeleton
Maintain body temp.
9
Conclusion
There are specialized types of tissues, cells, and organs that
help make up the 11 body systems. A type of tissue that acts
similar to a rubber band called connective tissue is used
throughout the body to connect things together. The connective
tissue that connects bone to bone is called ligament. The
connective tissue that connects muscle to bone is called
tendon.
