To determine MB (TO) the STATION, we have to use the following formula.

QDM(MB) = RELATIVE BEARING (RB) + MAGNETIC HEADING (MH).
QDM= 123 + 85 = 203'

Here they ask about MAGNETIC BEARING to the station means they ask us to calculate the heading to fly TO the station therefore QDM is requested.

Avex Question: 75356

For this question, you need to know how to convert from MAGNETIC to TRUE using the following formulas:

From MAGNETIC to TRUE :
Can Dead Man Vote Twice (memo technic)
COMPASS HEADING (CH) - DEVIATION (D) - MAGNETIC HEADING (MH) - VARIATION (V) - TRUE HEADING (TH)

When converting a magnetic into true we have to keep in mind we are moving toward the EAST therefore EAST is BEST and we have to ADD (+).
As we are moving to the EAST, we are moving away from the WEST therefore WEST is LEAST so we have to SUBTRACT (-).

On the other hand if they ask us to calculate MAGNETIC from TRUE we will move in the opposite direction from TH to MH.
Therefore we will move toward WEST from the EAST hence our WEST will become BEST so we have to ADD (+)
and our EAST will become LEAST hence we have to SUBTRACT (-).

The following formula can also be used as it works same as before.
Thank you Very Much, Dear Captain (memo technic)
TRUE HEADING (TH) - VARIATION (V) - MAGNETIC HEADING (MH) - DEVIATION (D) - COMPASS HEADING (CH)
Let's come back to our question:
1st we have to calculate TRUE HEADING to calculate TRUE BEARING.
CH D MH V TH
241' -3' 238' +13'(E) 251'

Now we have TH = 251' and RB= 162' BUT still we didn't find our TRUE BEARING (TB) so let's use the following formula.

5

RB = TB - TH
TB = RB + TH
TB = 162 + 251
TB = 413' which is higher than 360' therefore 413-360 = 053'.
However, this is our QUJ ( aircraft to the station).
Nevertheless, they ask for the QTE as the question says TRUE BEARING FROM the NDB(station) TO the AIRCRAFT!

Therefore:
053' + 180' = 233'

Finally, we calculated:
QUJ = 053'
QTE = 233' (this is the one requested by the question).

As you can see our HEADING keeps decreasing means we have left cross wind therefore experiencing RIGHT DRIFT and while correcting for the wind our magnetic heading has gone from 000' to 330' to the left.

Avex Question: 55290

If we take the ADF needle and put over our DIRECTIONAL, we can see the station is on our RIGHT side at 290' FROM our current HEADING 225'.

8

We can say INBOUND is on our RIGHT and OUTBOUND on our LEFT
INBOUND = flying toward the station (QDM), given by the HEAD of the needle.
OUTBOUND = flying away from the station (QDR), given by the TAIL of the needle.

Now let's analyze all 4 answers.

media

Now we can conclude from all 4 answers only D is correct because our head of the ADF is at 290' and if we continue on our current heading of 225', the head of the ADF needle will drop and the tail will go up.
At a given time the
HEAD of the needle will reach 315' and we have to turn RIGHT to intercept INBOUND to the NDB (station).

As we know we fly RADIALS from VOR and RADIAL + 180 in the case of ADF (HOMING), therefore if we are on the radial 240 from a VOR our ADF needle will point to the NDB station which is co-located with VOR.
thus 240-180 = 060' or
240 + 180 = 420 - 360 = 060'.

For this question, we have to CALCULATE our TRUE HEADING (1st) and TRUE BEARING (2nd) to find our RELATIVE BEARING (3rd).

1st: CH D MH V TH
020' +2 022' -24(w) 358'

2nd: TB = CB + D + V
TB = 300' + (+2) +(-24'W)
TB = 278'

3rd: RB = TB - TH
RB = 278' - 358'
RB = -80' + 360' = 280'
