Direct Object

The direct object receives the action of the verb. What do I adore? I adore the puppy - the puppy is being adored!

Look at the role of each part of the sentence.

• Je porte le manteau vert.

• Je = subject (does the action)

• porte = verb (is the action)

• le manteau vert = direct object (receives the action)

Direct Object Pronouns

Pronouns replace nouns. Direct object pronouns replace direct objects.

Direct Object Pronoun

le chiot can be replaced with le/l' = it

Je l'adore {the le becomes l' before a vowel}

Attention!

Notice that the direct object pronoun comes before the verb!

J'adore le chiot. - I love the puppy

Je l'adore. - I love it
