When modifiers are not placed correctly, they can lead to confusion or change the intended meaning of the sentence. Today, we will focus on understanding and using phrases and clauses as modifiers effectively.

What is a phrase?
A phrase is a group of words that does not contain a subject and a verb. It functions as a single part of speech and can act as an adjective or an adverb.

Phrases as Modifiers
When a phrase is used to modify a noun or pronoun, it is called an adjective phrase.
Example: The cat with fluffy fur is sleeping. The phrase with fluffy fur modifies the noun cat.

When a phrase is used to modify a verb, adjective, or adverb, it is called an adverb phrase.
Example: She sang with great enthusiasm. The phrase with great enthusiasm modifies the verb sang.

A misplaced modifier is a word or phrase that is incorrectly separated from the word it modifies, often resulting in awkward or unclear sentences.
Example: Running quickly, the dog chased the ball. It sounds like the dog is running quickly, not chasing the ball.

A dangling modifier is a word or phrase that does not logically modify any word in the sentence.
Example: Walking down the street, the trees were beautiful. It's unclear what or who is walking down the street.
