Alliteration

Alliteration is a group of words that begin with the same sound.




Example: The
sly snake slithers slowly.

Simile

A simile is a comparison of two things without using "like" and "as".










Example: She has a heart of gold.

Metaphor

A metaphor is a comparison of two things using "like" or "as".









Example: Life is like a rollercoaster.

Hyperbole

A hyperbole is an exaggerated statement, usually with humor.









Example: I can eat an elephant!

Personification

Personification is when non-human objects, ideas or animals are given human characteristics, actions or emotions.





Example: The sun smiled at me.

Onomatopoeia

Onomatopoeia is the naming of a thing or action by imitation of natural sounds.











Example: "BEEP!","BOOM!"

Idioms

Idioms are a type of phrase or expression that has a meaning that can't be deciphered by defining the individual words.










Example: This is a piece of cake.
