Prefer + isim + to + isim

İki nesne, yemek, içecek, kıyafet vb. şeylerde bir şeyi diğerine tercih ettiğimizi belirtmek için bu kuralı kullanırız.

Örnek

Prefer Doing Something to Doing Something Else

Prefer + V-ing + to + V-ing

İki aktivite, fiil arasından tercih ettiğimiz olanı belirtmek için bu kural kullanılır.

Örnek

I prefer drinking coffee to eating chocolate. (Kahve içmeyi çikolata yemeye tercih ederim)

I prefer leading a quiet life to going through the crowds in a big city. (Büyük şehirde kalabalıkla mücadele etmektense sessiz bir hayat sürmeyi tercih ederim)

Prefer vs. Would Rather

• İkisi de "tercih etmek" anlamına gelir.

• Kullanılışları farklıdır.

• Prefer'den sonra gelen fiile "-ing" eki getirilir. Tercih ettiğimiz ve etmediğimizi "to" ile ayırırız.

• Would Rather'dan sonra gelen fille herhangi bir ek gelmez. Tercih ettiğimiz ve etmediğimizi "than" ile ayırırız.

• I prefer visiting Cappadocia to climbing mountain.
