1) If adding terms with the same sign add the numbers and keep the sign. For example: 3 + 5 = 8 or -2 + -5 = -7
2) If adding terms with mixed signs subtract the numbers and keep the sign of the larger number. For example: -8 + 5 = -3
3) When multiplying or dividing mixed signs are negative, and same signs are positive. For example: 6 x -3 = -18 or -4 x -5 = 20
