TOPIC SENTENCE
• It is the most important sentence in the paragraph.
• It tells the reader what the paragraph is about.
• Usually starts with:
- In my opinion, …
- I think that …..
- I agree…
- I disagree…
e.g. I disagree that technology will replace teachers in the future for
many reasons.

TOPIC SENTENCES: SAMPLES
• There are three main reasons why some people play sports.
• There are several reasons why i like to be a teacher.
• In future, I like to be a lawyer for many important reasons.
• In my opinion, Q Drums should win the award for three reasons.
• I agree that staying in a hotel is the best way to enjoy a holiday for
three reasons.

SUPPORTING SENTENCES
• They develop the topic sentence.
• They give the reader:
facts , reasons, examples, and details about the topic sentence.
• Minimum: 3 supporting sentences (100 words).

Sample Sentences
• In my opinion, switching off mobiles one day a week is really good
for several reasons.
• First, you can do many activities. For example, you can help your
father or do some housework.
• Second, you can have better social life. For instance, you can spend
more time with family and friends.
• Finally, it is good for your health because mobile phones can affect
your eyes, brain and cause stress.

CONCLUDING SENTENCE
• It is the last sentence of the paragraph.
• It is similar to the topic sentence.
• You can rewrite the topic sentence in different words.
• Usually starts like this:
• In conclusion,… / All in all, … / In short, … / To conclude, …
