Mancala en Afrique

Mancala is a collection of traditional games that have been played in Africa for many hundreds of years. Players use strategies to "count and capture" stones, grains, or shells placed in small dishes or holes, or sometimes dug into the earth. Its closest equivalent in the West are the games of checkers and chess.

The puppet character

Guignol was created at the beginning of the

19th century in Lyon. Guignol gave a voice to the city's workers. He expressed their concerns and spoke out against social injustice. Today an entire theatrical tradition takes its name from the Guignol character, and performances continue to comment on politics and society. Guignol doesn't perform alone; other characters include Gnafron, Guignol's friend; Madelon, his wife; and a policeman who often falls victim to Guignol's tricks.
