Use: Commonly used for network cabling in LANs due to its low cost, flexibility, and good performance
Categories: Comes in various grades, such as Cat5e for up to 1 Gbps and Cat6a for up to 10 Gbps
Installation Tips: Avoid bending sharply and keep away from sources of EMI for optimal performance
Definition: UTP is a type of cabling that consists of pairs of insulated copper wires twisted together without additional shielding
Structure: Typically includes 2 to 1800 twisted pairs encased in an outer plastic jacket
Interference: Lacks internal shielding, offering minimal protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI)
Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)

Categories:
Performance Grades: Available in Cat5e, Cat6, Cat7, etc., for varying speeds and frequencies.
Installation:
Careful Handling: Shielding must be grounded properly to be effective.
Avoid Sharp Bends: To maintain cable integrity and performance.
Structure:
Twisted Copper Wires: Pairs of insulated copper wires twisted together.
Conductive Shielding: Each pair wrapped in foil or braided shield.
Interference:
EMI Protection: Shields block external electromagnetic interference.
Reduced Crosstalk: Twisting reduces signal interference between pairs.
Use:
High-Interference Areas: Ideal for environments with heavy electrical noise.
Sensitive Data Transmission: Preferred for secure or private network installations.

There are also GG45 and TERA connectors, associated with ISO Class F and Class II cabling. GG45 has a similar form factor to RJ45 but has four conductors in the corners. TERA connectors have a completely different form factor.
RJ45 plugs have a plastic retaining clip. This is normally protected by a rubber boot. This type of cable construction is also referred to as snagless.

Usage: Installed in plenum spaces (a void in a building designed to carry heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems) used for air circulation in HVAC systems.
Material: Made of materials like PVC or FEP that are fire-resistant and emit fewer toxic fumes.
Safety: Meets higher fire safety standards due to the potential of air circulation spreading smoke.
Cost: Generally, more expensive due to the higher material and safety standards.
Plenum Cable
26
Riser-Rated Cable (CMR):
Usage: Used in vertical spaces (risers) that run between floors to distribute utilities.
Material: Fire-resistant but not to the same degree as plenum-rated cables.
Safety: Designed to prevent the spread of fire between floors, less stringent than plenum requirements.
Cost: More cost-effective than plenum-rated cables.

Coax is not widely deployed except in CATV and datacenters (twinax). The RG specification codes come from their page numbers in the Radio Guide manual, the original military specification (Mil-Spec) for coax cables, which is no longer in use.

Multiple Choice
A company is setting up a network in an industrial environment where machinery often causes significant electromagnetic interference. The network requires a cabling solution that can handle high-speed data transfer while also being resistant to this interference. The cable will be used to connect servers within the same data center, and the runs will not exceed 100 meters.
