What is the た (ta) form?

  • The た form is a casual past tense form in Japanese when it is used at the end of a sentence. However, if it is used in the middle of sentences, it doesn’t show the politeness level of the sentence, because politeness is usually shown at the end of a sentence.

~たほうがいいです

The structure 〜たほうがいいです (...ta houga ii desu) is used to give advice or suggestions, meaning "it is better to [verb]" or "you should [verb]". It suggests a course of action that is recommended for the listener's benefit or for a better outcome.
