2

In sport, feedback is information the performer collects or receives about a skill or performance.

What is feedback?

Feedback

3

During your PDP you will have received feedback from others. Explain whether the feedback you received was useful or not. (2)

To answer this you need to provide:

An example of when you received feedback from your teacher.
An explanation of whether or not you found the feedback useful.
A different example of when you received feedback (from either your teacher OR a peer).
An explanation of whether or not you found the feedback useful.

4

Types of Feedback

Feedback can be either INTERNAL or EXTERNAL. This question is asking you about the feedback you received from OTHERS, so, you must talk about EXTERNAL feedback.

So, who can provide you with external feedback? That would be me (your teacher), your training partner or one of your teammates.

5

This means that you will be able to rely on the feedback you are receiving because it is likely to be accurate.

Feedback from your teacher comes from a knowledgeable source as they are likely to be experienced in the area they are giving feedback on.

Knowledgeable

What makes teacher feedback useful?

6

Feedback is useful when it is limited to one or two specific points so that you are not overloaded with information.

One or two points

Feedback is useful when it is given immediately after your performance so that it is fresh in your mind.

Immediate

What makes teacher feedback useful?

7

If one of your peers is offering you positive feedback followed by a corrective comment this can be motivating for you.

Feedback from your peer comes from a source that are likely at the same ability level as you as they are in the same group or team as you.

Same level as you

What makes peer feedback useful?

8

Feedback is useful when it is positive (highlighting what you are doing well e.g. 'your digs in volleyball are going straight to your teammate') then corrective ('but next time make sure you bend your knees more'). As they are on the same level as you this can be motivating.

Positive first

What makes peer feedback useful?

9

This is a 2 mark question, so I would suggest the following.

Paragraph 1 should focus on feedback you have received from your teacher and whether you think it is useful or not. You can look to provide an example of the feedback you may have received from me. For example, it could be that I suggested you stop swinging your arms or that you should bend your knees more.

10

This is a 2 mark question, so I would suggest the following.

Paragraph 2 should focus on feedback you receive from your classmate. It might be that you have received positive feedback from a classmate who has offered you praise for a good play and this could be useful because it has came from someone who is the same as you. Alternatively, your classmate could have been completing your results in your training diary and the feedback could be useful because they were focused on your performance and filled it in correctly.

11

Model Example

I received useful information from my teacher because first of all it was coming from a knowledgeable source, so I felt I could rely upon it. He told me that, when I was playing my dig, I should focus on trying to stop swinging my arms when I make contact with the ball during the dig. He gave me this information during my repetition drill, so I was able to act on it immediately and it was only a small thing to focus on so I wasn't overwhelmed and could look to correct this area of my performance.

Finish the starter...

Also, during my repetition drills my classmate was recording my success rate by tally marking successful and unsuccessful returns...

Did your partner provide accurate feedback?
Were they supportive?
Did they make any mistakes?
Were they distracted?
