Citizenship is an important concept. It means that a person owes allegiance (loyalty) to a country and expects protection from that country. Citizens have certain rights and responsibilities.

Naturalization is the process of gaining citizenship other than by birth.
Before a person can apply to be naturalized as a US citizen, they have to meet qualifications like legal entry into the US; residence in the US for a specified amount of time; passing a test that includes English, US history, and US government; and taking an oath of allegiance to the United States. Naturalization is a voluntary process.

We believe that individuals should have as much individual freedom as possible. We also believe that the government should actively guarantee and protect that individual freedom.
