WHAT IS A SET?

Sets are represented as a collection of well-defined objects or elements and it does not change from person to person. A set is represented by a capital letter.

Example: A set of vowels in the English Alphabet.

Let's say "A" is the name of this set, so,

A = {a,e,i,o,u}

TYPES OF EVENTS IN PROBABILITY

  • IMPOSSIBLE EVENT (NULL) - cannot happen, denoted by { }

  • SURE EVENT - occurs always, all possible outcomes in an event.

  • SIMPLE OR ELEMENTARY EVENT - only one element

  • COMPLEMENTARY EVENT - set of all elements in S which are not in A. Denoted by A'
