Tropical zones are hot year round, the lowest temperatures during the cool months will hover around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. There are only two seasons, hot and dry or hot and wet. You can find rainforests in tropical zones. Tropical Zones are the Islands of the Caribbean, the jungles of Southern Mexico and Central America and the Florida peninsula.
Let's get tropical!
9
Dry climate zones are places that see less than
12 inches of 30 centimeters of rain water a year! This limits the plants that can grow but life adapts to these conditions. The Deserts in North America are in the Southwest of the United States and parts of Northern Mexico.
Dry starts with d, like Deserts
10
Temperate zones are areas that have rainfall spread out through the year. There can also be times of drought. In Temperate zones you see the seasons change with the weather. The summers can go from hot to mild, the winters from cool to cold. Most of the United States is on a Temperate zone.
Temperate Zones are Terrific.
11
Continental climate zones are areas closer to the north or south pole. These zones have longer winters, the snow takes longer to melt and shorter growing seasons for crops. These areas are to the north of North America close to Canada in the North American Continent.
Continental Climates get cold!
12
Polar zones are to the far north. Canada is mostly in the polar zone, Alaska is completely in the polar zone. These areas are covered in snow almost 9 months out of the year. They are frigid, desolate and mostly uninhabited.
Polar Zones are home to polar bears.
