Many laboratories contain significant risks, and the prevention of laboratory accidents requires great care and constant vigilance.

​Proper Lab Attire

​What to wear in the lab:

• ​Approved Safety Goggles

• A shirt that covers the stomach and lower back as well as the upper arms

• Long pants

• Close-Toed Shoes

What NOT to wear in the lab:

• ​Contact lenses

• ​Tank tops or cropped shirts

• ​Shorts or Skirts

• ​Sandles or flip-flops

Material Safety Data Sheet - MSDS

• An MSDS is a document that lists information relating to occupational safety and health for the use of various substances and products.

• Should be read before interacting with a substance in the lab.

• Can be found in the classroom or online - google "MSDS for__"

Lab Safety Symbols

• Lab procedures and equipment may be labeled with safety symbols. These symbols warn of specific hazards, such as flames or broken glass. Learn the symbols so you will recognize the dangers. Then learn how to avoid them.

• Blue - Heath Hazard

• Red - Fire Hazard

• Yellow - Instability

• White - Specific Hazard

• Scale of 1-4 with "1" being the least hazardous and "4" being the most
