Organ donation and tissue donation is an incredibly important topic and should be seriously talked about with loved ones. When having the conversation, it is important to consider the lives that will be affected if you choose to donate your organs.

​What is organ and tissue donation?

​In Nevada there are over 500 people on the organ donor waiting list, hoping to receive a life changing gift. Luckily, 41% of Nevada’s adult population are registered to be organ donors, that's over 900,000 people. That number may sound high but it's important to remember that 22 people die every day because they could not receive the organ’s they need to survive. Organ donations can also go to disabled individuals to greatly enhance their lives.

Registering In Person (at the DMV)

When you get your license in Nevada or renew your license in Nevada at the DMW (Department of Motor Vehicles), you will be asked if you would like to declare yourself as an organ and tissue donor. Answer in the affirmative and they will add you to the list of donors, effectively making you a super hero. In addition you get a heart on your license which we think is pretty cool.

The DMV sucks but someone has to be a hero!

​You can also register to donate online, this is great if you forgot to register the last time you were at the DMV or if you do not have a Nevada (NV) driver’s license. To register online, visit Donate Life Nevada or the Nevada Donor Network.

You can also register with a central registration system, Organize.org, which will allow you to register in the multiple state registries so that your choice of being an organ donor will be known throughout The United States.

What happens to me?

If you decide to save lives by becoming an organ donor, you should feel confident in that decision. Rest assured that if you get sick or injured, doctors will do absolutely everything possible to try to save you before collecting your organs. If you’re in an accident, paramedics won’t look at your driver license to check for an organ donation indicator until you’ve passed away. So you don’t worry that you won’t be treated with the best care just so your body to be used for organ or tissue donation. Saving your life will always be the #1 priority before an organ transplantation.
