7

Writing a paragraph to provide a critical answer to a question about a cultural topic

Critical academic writing requires critical thinking; it's not enough to just describe or summarise information and evidence, you also need to analyse and evaluate information so as to use it to develop and support your own arguments.

What is critical writing?

At university, you are often encouraged to be ‘critical’ in your thinking. This means going beyond simply understanding or memorizing information and instead engaging with it in a deeper, more analytical way. Critical thinking involves questioning assumptions, evaluating evidence, considering alternative perspectives, and constructing well-reasoned arguments.
