Choose one of the following questions to answer. Make sure your answer is at least three sentences long, answers every part of the question, and is well thought out.

1) Confucianism emphasizes the importance of respect for elders and ancestors. In your own family or culture, how is respect for older generations shown? Do you think this is important? Why or why not?

2) Shintoism values the connection with nature and sees sacredness in natural things. What places in nature make you feel peaceful or connected to something larger than yourself? Why do you think these places have this effect?

3) Buddhism focuses on understanding suffering and finding inner peace. What do you think are some of the main causes of suffering in the world today? What are some ways people you know try to find peace or happiness?

4) These three belief systems developed in East Asia and influenced how people lived. Can you think of any beliefs or values in your own community or country that have a big impact on how people behave and interact? How are they similar to or different from the ideas you've learned about in Confucianism, Shintoism, or Buddhism?
