  • Historical Period of religious reform in 16th-century Europe

  • Led to significant changes in Christianity

  • Started by Martin Luther in (1517), then followed by the first German Bible in (1534)

  • Changed how people worshiped and thought about religion

  • Council of Trent begins (1545): It was a key response to the Reformation, aiming to clarify Catholic doctrine, address perceived abuses, and counter the challenges posed by Protestantism. 

  • Peace of Augsburg (1555), allowed princes in the Holy Roman Empire to choose either Lutheranism or Catholicism as the official religion of their territories.
