- Apply prepositions to make your writing specific and descriptive.

What Is a Preposition?
• Prepositions are words like 'over,' 'under,' 'around,' and 'through.'
• They show a relationship between a noun or pronoun and another word.
• They act like a GPS, telling the reader where, when, or how.
• Without them, our sentences would be confusing and make less sense.
5
Let's Learn with an Example
• Let's look at this sentence: ‘The curious squirrel scampered up the tall oak tree.’
• First, find a word that connects a noun to the sentence.
• The word ‘up’ connects the verb ‘scampered’ with the noun ‘tree’.
• It answers the question, “Where did the squirrel scamper?” showing the direction.
• Here, ‘up’ is followed by the noun phrase, ‘the tall oak tree’.
• So, ‘up’ is the preposition, and it adds important detail.
