Main Idea What is the main idea of a text?

The most important point an author makes.

Something that can only be figured out by looking at the title.

Whatever is written in the biggest letters.

A fact that shows up in a reading.

A logical guess based on what you know.

A prediction based on something you saw in a movie.

A football penalty when a defensive player touches an offensive player too early.

Hints that an author gives to help define a difficult word or term.

Things around you that help you solve a crime.

A type of reading that gives you clues about the main idea.

The definition of vocabulary words in the margin of the page.

Take it out and insert a word you do know and then reread and see if it makes sense.

Just skip it, it probably isn't important.

Take a wild guess at the meaning and just use it from now on.

Ignore it for now, but be sure to look it up some other time.
