• French lost land & British went into debt. They had to raise taxes on colonists.

• The British lost land & French went into debt. That is why we have french fries.

What was the Proclamation of 1763?

• When colonists decided they wanted to be their own country.

• The same thing as the Declaration of Independence

• When British officials said Native Americans owned land west of the Appalachian Mts. & that colonists couldn't move there.

How did colonists feel about the Proclamation of 1763?

• They were glad that their Native American friends were given protection & land.

• They were angry, and felt like it wasn't fair that colonists couldn't move West.

What was the Quartering Act?

• A rule that said you have to have a warrant before you searched someone's house.

• A rule that said if a British soldier needed a place to stay, you had to share your home, no matter what.

What was the Stamp Act?

• A tax on stamps and other paper goods on colonists.

• A boycott on all stamps because taxes were too high.

• Colonists were angry & protested, boycotted, and scared off tax collectors.

• A tax on goods like lead, glass, paper, paint, and tea.

What was the Boston Tea Party?

• A tea party with only the most elite in England. Colonists were angry they were left out.

• A response to the taxes on tea. People dressed up like Native Americans and dumped all the tea into the harbor.
