Fie legea de compoziție

 $\ x\ o\ y\ =\ xy\ -3x\ -3y\ +12$  pe mulțimea numerelor reale. Aceasta se mai poate scrie astfel: 

•  $\ x\ o\ y\ =\ \left(x\ -3\right)\left(y\ -3\right)+3$  

•  $\ x\ o\ y\ =\ \left(x\ +3\right)\left(y\ +3\right)-3$  
  

•  $\ x\ o\ y\ =\ \left(x\ -3\right)\left(y\ +3\right)-3$  
  

•  $\ x\ o\ y\ =\ \left(x\ +3\right)\left(y\ -3\right)+3$  
  

Comutativitatea legii de compoziție „* ” pe R, este exprimată prin relația:

• x * y = y * x,   $\forall x,y\in\mathbb{R}$  

•  $\exists\ x,y\ \in\mathbb{R}$  a.î. x * y = y * x

• ( x * y ) * z = x * ( y * z ),  $\forall\ x,y,z\ \in\mathbb{R}$  

•  $\exists\ x,y,z\ \in\mathbb{R}$  a.î. ( x * y ) * z = x * ( y * z )
