Shura in Islam

Why did the Prophet (PBUH) conducted Shura?

• To measure their capabilities

• To promote cooperation among the Companions

• To fulfill his own interests

• To establishing the principle of shura

Shura is to be conducted on:

• Matters addressed in a Shari'ah text

• Matters that are mentioned in the Sunnah

• Contemporary matters which are not subject to a prior rule

• Weakening community cohesion

• Establishing a culture of destructive dialogue

• Choosing Abu Bakr As-Siddeq (RA) as a successor after the Prophet's death (PBUH)

• The decision of compiling the Qur’an after consucting shura between Omar bin Al-Khattab and Abu Bakr As-Siddeq (RA)

• The suggestion of Salman Al-Farisi (RA) to dig a trench around Madinah before the battle of the confederates
