Our senses receive information/stimuli which go through our sensory registry where sensory information is briefly held. Than between sensory registry and short-term memory attention is used as a sort of filter that selects what sensory information are worth further processing. Attention helps us focus on relevant info and ignoring other because of the limit we have in cognitive resources. Than information makes it through short-term memory which is where information currently being used/manipulated is.
