MULTIPLE SELECT QUESTION
1 min • 1 pt
In an attempt to make her feel better, Ida B's parents offer to give her some land in the south field and help her plant new apple trees there. She responds, "There is no making up for the terrible things that have happened this year." Then what happens? Check all that apply...
Her dad slams down his fork, gradually calms down, and explains that he has been very angry and sad also. Ida B stands up and leaves the room, determined to stay hard-hearted.
On the bus Monday morning, Ida B prepares for 276 possible retaliation scenarios vis a vis Claire, yet Claire does not retaliate.
Ida B realizes she had truly been mean, and then has a good talk with Ms. Washington on the steps, concluding that she needs to apologize to Claire, but she can't seem to get Claire alone. Then Claire asks her to stop following her and just leave her alone. Later, Ida B goes to their house and apologizes to both Claire and her brother.
Ida B then continues her apologizing / spring cleaning and expresses regret to the trees for the fact that she couldn't protect them all. Viola says that they have missed her. Ida also apologizes to the old tree for kicking (intending to hurt) it, and the tree accepts her apology, so to speak and says says, "Always," to which Ida responds, "Me, too."
Ida B overcomes her anger, releasing her heart from its dark, hard, sharp configuration, and takes responsibility for her part in crossing the silence that has divided her from each of her parents. In other words, she grows up (a lot).
